Blackwater Rivers, like the Ogeechee and Canoochee, are unique river systems. They have lower pH (the waters are more acidic) than a typical Piedmont area stream or mountain stream. The tannic acids from the trees in the swamps help to tint the water a tea-color and lower the pH.
