SAVANNAH, GA – October 13, 2016 – Registration for Ogeechee Riverkeeper’s Oct. 22 paddle trip is under way. This season comes to a close with a crowd favorite, the Butterbean Beach excursion.
Paddlers will enjoy a leisurely day on the coast exploring the Skidaway Narrows, the Branches, Pigeon Island and more while following the movement of the tide. This trip clocks in at under 6 miles with a pit stop at the fascinating Pin Point Heritage Museum. This trip is great for families and beginners, as well as experienced paddle trippers.
All members are encouraged to register and take part in this monthly paddle trip at no cost beyond an annual membership. Non-members can also experience the beauty of the River by paying $35, which will include a yearly membership. Participants should bring lunch/snacks, water bottles, sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, water shoes or old tennis shoes, and a bag to store keys, phone etc.
To make trips like this possible, Ogeechee Riverkeeper launched a new fundraising campaign over the summer, “Power the Paddle.” The nonprofit’s goal is to raise $6,500, which will allow Ogeechee Riverkeeper to buy additional kayaks and a new canoe trailer so they can accommodate larger groups on the water.
Donors may contribute to this initiative online, and they have the opportunity to create their own fundraising pages, set goals, and share their pages with friends and family via social media. For instructions on how to set up your own fundraising page to compete for prizes, please visit http://ogeecheeriverkeeper.org/become-a-fundraiser/.
In addition to supplying a donation, the top three donors/fundraisers (plus one guest each), will get to take the new kayaks on their first voyage on an exclusive and private paddle trip. The highest donor/fundraiser will win a handcrafted Greenland-style paddle donated by master woodworker and Ogeechee Riverkeeper board member Tim Goodson.
The Butterbean Beach trip will feature an educational guide who will inform participants about the scenery they are viewing. Ogeechee Riverkeeper is looking forward to seeing area paddling enthusiasts on Oct. 22 for a fun and memorable day on the river before the season comes to a close.
