During the month of October, you are challenged to participate a different kind of trick-or-treating. Put together a team of no more than 10 people and compete to collect the most trash by October 31! ORK will provide a prize to the team who collects the most trash (by weight).
RULES:
Make note of the location, take a photo, weigh total trash and/or recycling collected per team/individual, and send it in to info@ogeecheeriverkeeper.org.
Trash collection must be conducted on public lands or have permission from private landowners/river landings.
Each team is responsible for supplying their own litter collection supplies.
Each team is responsible for discarding the trash/recycling collected. BONUS: Email a picture of any repurposed item or sustainable solution.
Teams are encouraged to include friends/family members within your “COVID bubble,” i.e. not strangers -or- use masks and/or social distancing.
Creativity is encouraged with team name and Halloween or fall costumes (must be family friendly and appropriate for outdoor activities). Team Trash Panda, anyone?

Come join ORK & OAS for a birding walk and litter cleanup!
This beautiful site offers a mix of habitats, featuring wetlands and river setting. Ogeechee Audubon co-leaders & Ogeechee Riverkeeper co-leaders will help locate and identify birds, educate us about the southern part of the Ogeechee watershed while we cleanup the waterways.
We will search for wading birds, raptors, woodpeckers and other early winter resident birds. Loaner binoculars and litter collection supplies will be available.
Meet at the cul-de-sac at 9am (the Al Bungard Conservation Area). Use driving directions from HWY 17.
Trip Rigor: Easy, with paved path and varied terrain. Estimated walking distance 2 miles. ADA accessible; no public restrooms on site.
Registration is individual. Each person in your party must register separately.

In partnership with Keep Liberty Beautiful (KLB) and Hinesville Downtown Development Authority (HDDA), Ogeechee Riverkeeper (ORK) will co-host a Rivers Alive litter cleanup.
Volunteers will meet in a central location in Hinesville for supplies and instructions before being assigned specific spots for cleanup.
This event is limited to 30 participants. Volunteers should register in advance.
All CDC guidelines regarding Covid-19 will be followed for this event.
About Rivers Alive Rivers Alive is Georgia’s annual volunteer waterway cleanup event that targets all waterways in the state, including streams, rivers, lakes, beaches, and wetlands. The mission of Rivers Alive is to create awareness of and involvement in the preservation of Georgia’s water resources. Rivers Alive is held annually each fall and is a program of the Georgia Environmental Protection Division Outreach Program.
The event will take place on Saturday, July 10, 2021, at 7 – 9 a.m.
Participants are required to complete a liability waiver prior to the event.
Please wear weather-appropriate clothing, boots or closed-toed shoes and bring your own water bottle(s). We encourage the use of reusable bottles to cut down on waste.
Litter collection supplies (trash bags, litter grabbers and gloves) will be provided. Registration closes 7/8/21 and a confirmation email will be shared afterward. This cleanup will not involve boats.
City of Savannah will retrieve collected trash following the event.
Cleanup will take place at the end of Madison Ave in Savannah, Ga., or use GPS coordinates: 32.005194, -81.106111. There is room for volunteers to park at the cleanup location.
