Members Only: Botany & Brews with Savannah Tree Foundation

Savannah Tree Foundation and ORK will host a tree walk at Skidaway Island State Park. Sydney Young will lead a guided tour of tree species found throughout the park with an emphasis on their importance to our watershed’s health.

The walk will be followed with an optional get-together at Village Bar and Grille, just outside the park entrance.

The walk will take place outdoors on paths with some uneven ground. Participants should dress appropriately for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes. Restrooms and refreshments are available at the Visitor Center.

Sydney Young is originally from Lafayette, Louisiana. After receiving her B.S. in Environmental Science from Loyola University New Orleans, she completed an ecology assistantship that centered around the Clarks Hill Lakes near Augusta, Georgia.

Afterwards, she worked at the Southern Environmental Law Center as a legal assistant before deciding to pursue a Master of Forestry degree at the University of Maine. There, she conducted an urban ash street tree study and created an emerald ash borer preparedness plan for the Town of Orono. She was recently the Urban Forestry Field Manager at the Savannah Tree Foundation. Sydney just accepted a new post working with GIS in the county office.

Now she is happily back in the South, ready to share and learn tree skills with the community!
